Unity Care was founded by Andre’ V. Champman

1993

Unity Care is founded by Andre’ Chapman to address the devastating housing, education, and employment outcomes faced by youth who are aging out of foster care.

1994

Unity Care opens second residential treatment home for boys, “House #2”

1995

Unity Care launches the Youth After-school Leadership Program

1996

Unity Care opens the fourth residential treatment home and the first home for girls, “House #4” 

1997

Shea Homes and Charles Shea IV partner to host group home renovations at “Christmas in April.”

Unity Care hosts inaugural fundraiser event: Virginia Clay/Unity Care Golf Classic at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San José

1998

City of San José Department of Housing names Unity Care as the Partner of the Decade Award

1999

Pre-College Minority Engineering Program (PC-MEP) launches in partnership with Applied Materials and Sun Microsystems

Reverend Jesse Jackson speaks at Virginia Clay Golf Classic

Unity Care opens Santa Clara County’s first transitional housing program (THP) for former foster youth (18-21) “House #6”

2000

Summer Learning program launches

2001

Hewlett-Packard, IBM, the City of San José and Santa Clara County officials partner to open new computer center attached to House 5 Residential Treatment Home

Monterey County children’s shelter, sub-acute psychiatric facility and day treatment program homes open  

2002

Unity Care moves corporate offices to 237 Race Street in San José  

2003

Unity Care celebrates 10th Anniversary with festivities held at Race Street headquarters

2004

Unity Care opens non-public high school:  Unity Care Academy in San José

“Cherish Center” opens, Monterey County’s first-ever 23-hour receiving center for abused or neglected

PC-MEP program teams with NASA Ames Research Center, Laron Incorporated, Line-X of San José, P/C Selective Metal Plating, Inc. and Bellarmine College Preparatory, as Team 254 “Cheesy Poofs” and wins the 2004 FIRST Robotics Championship “Hall of Fame” Chairman’s Award 

2005

‍Workforce Investment program launches RISE (Reaching Independence through Sustainable Employment) in Monterey County

2006

We purchase Unity Place Apartments in San Jose, offering shared apartment living to up to twenty South Bay young adults aging out of foster care. 

2009

Unity Care enters Monterey County to ensure young adults on the Central Coast have access to the services that prevent homelessness and help them thrive. 

2017

Unity Care acquires San Francisco-based MAC’s Children and Family Services to provide high quality supportive housing programs for current and former foster youth in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.

eBay selects Unity Care as its charity of choice for their Days of Color Celebration

Unity Care Receives the 49ers Foundation Unity Award

2015

We expand operations to Placer County, partnering with Placer County Social Services to serve twenty 18-21-year-old young adults from foster care.

2018

We host the first of many Youth Live Galas, an annual opportunity to celebrate the young people we serve and the incredible individuals who champion our cause.

2019

Unity Care announces strategic partnership with Seneca Family of Agencies

2020

Unity Care earns accreditation from the Council of Accreditation.

2023

Unity Care expands homeless services in the City and County of San Francisco

2025

Unity Care re-opens 10 -Unit S.F Cayuga Housing Complex after $3 million dollar renovation
