 For Immediate Release

March 5, 2021

SAN JOSE, Calif. — California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris and Unity Care Founder & CEO André Chapman will headline Saving Black Lives All Around the Bay Area, a regional town hall event featuring a cadre of Black doctors, public health experts, and policy makers from every Bay Area county discussing the most current information about COVID-19, vaccine distribution, and other protective measures. The free virtual event is scheduled for March 25 from 5:30-7:00 pm. Community members can get more information and register for the event at https://covid19black.org/get-involved.

Longtime disparities in housing, health care, financial wealth, education, and employment have contributed to conditions that put Black community members at high risk of contracting COVID-19, as well as becoming critically ill or dying from the disease. Saving Black Lives All Around the Bay Area aims to help the African Ancestry communities better protect themselves, their families, and the community.

This is the second in a series of educational workshops presented by COVID-19 Black, a health initiative created by Unity Care to inform the African Ancestry community about the pandemic virus and empower community members to improve their health by delivering accurate information from trusted sources in a culturally proficient way.  This event was developed in partnership with Roots Clinic, Minority Business Consortium, Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet, African American Community Service Agency, and Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
