CARING ABOUT UNITY CARE: Unity Care Group CEO Andre Chapman has no difficulty remembering how he met Bill Del Biaggio, the founding chairman of Heritage Bank of Commerce, who was being honored at the nonprofit’s Youth Live fundraiser Saturday night at the Fairmont San Jose.
Unity Care was looking for financing for Unity Place, a 12-unit transitional housing complex for former foster youth that opened in 2006. Chapman met with Del Biaggio and ended up not only with financing but with a longtime supporter.
“He’s a great community leader,” Chapman told the crowd of nearly 500 people. “When we have a grand opening, he doesn’t just show up as a banker, he shows up with his feet. It’s a testament to that when you see how many people showed up here. It’s like a family reunion.”
