What We DoServicesCommunity-Based Services Umoja (Family Team Meeting)

Umoja (Family Team Meeting)

The goal of Umoja (the Family Team Meeting) is to keep children with their families and to identify supports and services that will strengthen the family’s overall well-being.

The purpose of the Family Team Meeting is to develop a safety plan that will help parents reunify with their child(ren) as early as possible after the Department of Child and Family Services has intervened, or to maintain the child(ren) safely at home or with relatives. Parents are encouraged to invite family members to the meetings, such as aunts, uncles, and grandparents, as well as friends, and anyone else who provides support and resources to the family.

Family Team Meetings are facilitated in a strength-based process. The Social Worker and Supervisor work directly with the family to address any concerns they may have.
