Getting Involved Volunteer

Volunteer

 

You can make a positive difference in the lives of our foster youth and families by volunteering your time and talents. Unity Care offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

 

Minimum requirements:

  • All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application which stays on file with Unity Care Volunteer Coordinator.
  • If a volunteer is under 18, then a parent or guardian must be present and sign the Volunteer Application as well as the youth.

 

Volunteer assistance is always needed in the following areas:

 

1.    Administrative Support:

       GOAL:  Provide office support to our Program Staff:

    • Filing
    • Copying
    • Data Entry
    • Answering phones

2.     Adopt a Group Home: 

         GOAL:  Meet the physical needs of a group home:

    • Bathroom Makeover:  linens, shower curtain, paint, fixtures, etc.
    • Kitchen Makeover:  pots and pans, utensils, towels, small appliances
    • New Youth Welcome Kit:  toiletries, twin sheet set, twin comforter, pillow, Target gift card, duffle bag (ages 12-18)
    • Window: curtains and rods
    • Clothing: purchase a new graduation outfit
    • Holiday Decorations:  Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Santa’s Helpers

 

3.     Beautification Project: 

          GOAL:  Beautify our Residential Treatment homes in a variety of ways:

    • Painting Project: Paint the interior or exterior of our group homes or offices
      • Painting projects take place during April and September
      • Unity Care preps the property
    • Spring Cleaning:  Help beautify one of our Residential homes by washing windows, dusting, gardening, etc.
      • May take place on a weekday or weekend

 

4.     Corporate Field Trips: 

          GOAL:  Invite our youth (ages 12-24) to your company for a tour:

    • Inspire and motivate our youth to “DREAM BIG”
    • Typically takes place on a weekday during school breaks

 

5.     Executive Level Support:

         GOAL:  Provide executive level coaching to our management team:

    • Best Practices
    • Operations
    • Marketing

 

 6.     Family Finding:

          GOAL:  Donate items to assist our youth in reunifying with their families:

    • Donate your airline miles or purchase a plane ticket to support cost of travel
    • Donate gently used luggage

 

7.     Organize In-Kind Donations: 

          GOAL:  Help us organize and separate donations at our storage unit:

    • School supplies, clothing, shoes, toys and pajamas
    • This project can be a one-time event or can be on-going
    • Donations are typically picked up on a weekday, but a weekend opportunity is also available

 

8.     Share your Hobby or Talent:

          GOAL:  Share your hobby or talent with our youth (e.g., art, music, basketball, guitar, etc.):

    • May be on-going or on a one-time basis
    • May take place on a weeknight or a weekend

 

9.     Special Events:

          GOAL:  Solicit in-kind donations for our Silent Auction for YouthLive! (May 11, 2013)

 

          GOAL:  Participate in our Santa’s Helpers Campaign by:

    • Hosting a holiday party to collect gift cards
    • Bringing a holiday dinner to a foster family
    • Adopting a Group Home

10.   Supper Club: 

          GOAL:  Share your cooking skills and a meal with our youth once or twice a month:

    • Training and Orientation for this project to be conducted by Help One Child
    • Unity Care will purchase food
    • Typically takes place on a weeknight
