Details of the 2005 Virginia Clay/UCG Golf Classic

Benefiting Unity Care Academy and Pre-College Minority Engineering Program

Unity Care Group, Inc. will host its 7th annual Virginia Clay/Unity Care Golf Classic on Monday, June 27, 2005, at The Lodge at CordeValle in San Martin, California. Named after the departed wife of Silicon Valley pioneer Roy Clay, Sr., this year's golf tournament will raise funds for Unity Care's Pre-College Minority Engineering Program (PC-MEP) and Unity Care Academy.

Virginia Clay strongly encouraged her three sons -- Roy Clay, Jr., Rodney Lewis Clay and W. Chris Clay -- to pursue educational excellence. Each is now an accomplished professional in the hi-tech world. She was also mentor to Unity Care Group founder André Chapman. In 1999, Roy Clay, Sr. founded the Virginia Clay/Unity Care Annual Golf Classic to honor his wife's legacy - encouraging success among young minorities.

"Mrs. Clay was an advocate of children and her work was consistent with our mission," Chapman said. "I am extremely proud and pleased that Roy Clay chose to recognize and honor her work by establishing the Virginia Clay/Unity Care Annual Golf Classic to benefit our next generation of engineers."

Unity Care Group, Inc. is a community-based non-profit youth development agency that is committed to providing positive living environments for disadvantaged youth, and strives to prepare them for professions in which minorities are typically underrepresented. Its Pre-College Minority Engineering Program (PC-MEP) introduces students to the latest technologies by encouraging them to explore, design and build technology-based projects. PC-MEP serves more than 80 children every year, a feat that would not be possible without the success of the Golf Classic. The golf tournament enables Unity Care to offer PC-MEP at a nominal fee for every student.

Unity Care Academy is Unity Care Group's most recent foray in the field of education. This non-sectarian, non-public school caters to the needs of at-risk youth and aspires to improve academic skills and self-management, provide exposure to career fields, and build interpersonal skill sets of foster care youth. The money raised from the golf tournament will help provide a solid educational foundation for at-risk youth.

The 7th Annual Virginia Clay/Unity Care Group Golf Classic will be an exciting day of challenging golf. The players will not only be competing with one another, but will have an opportunity to compete for prizes on the course at several contest holes, such as a “closest to the pin” hole and a “hole in one” challenge.

During the silent and live auctions, you’ll find irresistible treasures from jazz inspired items and unique art to spa packages and exclusive chef prepared dinners.

So, put on your favorite Spring ensemble, invite your friends and family and join us for a memorable day of golfing and giving.
