Healthy Lifestyles Festival (HLF)

On May 31st from 1-4 pm, HLF will provide information on healthy alternatives to drugs, alcohol, and other negative behaviors. The HLF strives to raise awareness of the blatant targeting of youth of color by the tobacco industry and the impact on their lives.

This event will feature performances from elementary and middle school youth from Unity Care’s Hip Hop 360 program as well as a performance by East San Jose’s Lado Oriente. Local organizations such as RIDE, CATT, Digital Clubhouse, and Friday Night Live will provides students with information on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and give healthy options to these negative behaviors. Youth advocates will present positive messages to their peers and elementary school-aged kids. A Healthy Lifestyles fashion show and a lowrider bikes exhibition made by the youth rounds out the event.

Presented by Unity Care’s Hip Hop 360 and Mathson Middle School, this one-day event coincides with World Free Tobacco Day, created by the World Health Organization to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco worldwide. This invitation-only festival takes place at Mathson Middle School at 2050 Kammerer Avenue in San Jose and builds on last year’s Healthy Lifestyle Concert “Flick It”.
