In 1992, while working as a National Director of Sales and disheartened by the lack of other minorities in the technology field, André Chapman founded The Unity Care Group, Inc. to develop educational and social programs designed to enrich the lives of under served youth.
Having earned a BS in Business, a Masters in Organization Management and a Certificate of Completion, Harvard Business School, Strategic Perspectives on Non-Profit Management, Mr. Chapman has worked vigorously to bridge the foster care divide at local and state levels. He addresses the overrepresentation of minorities in the foster care system. Mr. Chapman has received both local and national acclaim for his dedication and innovation programs. His recognitions have included: "Award for Excellence" by Wells Fargo; "Grand Hero" by Bob Dole and the Avanti Foundation Magic Ceremony; "Partner of the Decade" by the City of San Jose Department of Housing; "Nonprofit of the Year" presented by 100 Black Men of Silicon Valley, 55th Annual Freedom and Friendship Gala "Circle of Friends" Award by San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP, "From Whence They Came" Award by the Allstate Insurance Company, "Evelyn T. Robinson Outstanding African American Alumnus" Award by San Jose State University, "Commendation" by the City of San Jose, "Human Relations, Board of Supervisors Award" by the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations.
Unity Care recently celebrated a monumental milestone, its 17th Anniversary, and since its inception the agency has aggressively expanded its core services and has made a significant impact upon those communities as a major multi-service youth and family development agency. Serving more than 2500 youth and families each year with special emphasis on Foster Care Youth, today its programs stretch among four counties (Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Placer and Monterey) employing over 150 staff.
Mr. Chapman's personal mission is to make a positive impact on young adults by providing opportunities (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) that will enhance their lives and teach them how to become productive citizens in our society. Mr. Chapman serves on a variety of local, County and State Boards and Commissions furthering his passion for serving youth.
Terry Boyle as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) brings over 25 years of experience in the accounting field, where he has held leadership positions with non-profit organizations and private companies. Prior to Unity Care, he was the CFO/COO for the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. Terry has an MBA from California State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
As the CFO, Terry ensures the organization maintains and implements sound fiscal policies, as well as long term financial health and sustainability. Terry manages the finance team and oversees all financial and accounting functions in alignment with our strategic plan. Along with the Accounting Department, Terry also oversees the Development, Human Resources, and IT Departments.
Larry brings over 25 years of experience in both the public and private Mental Health sector. He has worked for Santa Clara County's Mental Health Department's Family and Children's Division, Bureau of Alcohol & Drugs and the County's Social Services Department of Family Children's Services Agency. Larry has also worked for community-based agencies and HMO's experience. Larry served as the Executive Director for Starlight Adolescent Center in San José and worked for Kaiser Permanente as the Chief of Social Work Staff and Chemical Dependency Department. In addition, he has extensive clinical expertise and experience in providing direct individual and family therapy as well as out-patient psychotherapy and day treatment services to seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents, their families and the adult population. Larry has worked on numerous countywide initiatives and collaboratives focused on enhancing the effectiveness of services provided to children and their families in Santa Clara County. Larry holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from San José State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
As the COO, Larry will supervise the agency's programs housed within three service areas including: Residential, Mental Health and Community-Based services. Larry's primary responsibilities include, strategic planning, program operation and implementation, as well as the further development of the agency's mental health services.
Jenn McAleer brings over ten (10) years of compliance experience in the non-profit sector, in social service and health care organizations. Jenn has implemented and strengthened a variety of compliance programs, developing systems to measure and improve organizational levels of compliance in contract, corporate and regulatory compliance, utilizing innovative approaches and homegrown systems to build compliance into the organization's day to day operations.
Jenn is responsible for compliance functions across Unity Care Group, including contracts management, quality assurance, maintaining policies and procedures, implementation of the agency's new electronic recordkeeping system, ETO, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other measures to ensure Unity Care Group is compliant with all applicable rules and regulations.
Jenn holds a BA in American Studies, a MS in Public Policy & Management and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management. She also holds an MBA from Golden Gate University.
Kathy Linton's career has spanned several decades in Silicon Valley. She has worked in the management fields of journalism, high-tech, marketing, events and fundraising for some of the Valley's leading organizations such as The Mercury News, the San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal, Sunset Magazine, the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau, Fairchild Semiconductor, March of Dimes, Via Services and the YWCA of Silicon Valley. She has developed a strong community network and has dedicated numerous hours of her private time to community service. She has served on the Boards of Via Services and the YWCA (prior to her employment with them), Villa Montalvo and the Los Gatos Morning Rotary club, where she also served as club President. Kathy is a long-time resident of Willow Glen.
As the Director of Development and Community Relations, Kathy is responsible for managing the agency's fundraising streams, building its brand awareness and implementing a new 'signature fundraising event' for the agency.
Kathleen (Kate) Pahinui has over twenty (20) years of experience working at the national, state, county and community level in developing local systems of care utilizing the wraparound process. Kate has developed, implemented and managed mental health programs focused on improving the lives of children, youth and their families. Kate is responsible for the oversight and administration of Unity Care's Santa Clara County Residential and Wraparound programs.
Kate brings a wealth of experience and has worked with a diverse set of people in a variety of settings in California and also Hawaii, where she lived for 25 years. Her strengths reside in effective programming (planning, development and evaluation), prudent fiscal management, respect for diversity and high regard for collaboration. Kate has a M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University Honolulu, Hawaii.
Kate's career has focused on helping disadvantaged, vulnerable youth to optimize their potential for meaningful, productive lives. She is committed to promoting healthy development and fostering the well-being of children, youth and their families.
Rhonda Staton has over twenty (20) years of experience within non-profit agencies and has worked with at-risk populations in a variety of settings since 1994. She received her Master's of Social Welfare degree from UC Berkeley and since joining Unity Care in 2003, she has served in many roles spanning over various programs to include starting up new programs.
As the Director of Residential Services, Rhonda oversees all of the residentially based programs. In addition, she is often involved with special projects, writing grant applications, and serving as a liaison for Unity Care within the community.
David Beckstein previously served as Unity Care's Clinical Director for 6 years, managing the a number of clinical programs in three counties. He developed the Cherish Center, a 23 hour receiving center in Monterey and expanded out-patient mental health services in Santa Clara County.
Mr. Beckstein brings over 20 years of licensed psychotherapy and supervisory experience and is adjunct faculty at John F Kennedy University and other schools. David holds two Masters Degrees, one in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and one in Family Psychology and Practice from John F. Kennedy University. David is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and board certified CEU trainer.
